Disasteroids

PEW PEW PEW!

iPhone & iPad · free · Android in closed testing

You may think you’ve played this game before — but you’ve never played it like this. Dodging the asteroids with your accelerometer-happy device is just the beginning: tapping them to bits has never been more satisfying.

Wobble and weave through ever-more-constrained swarms to earn a slew of achievements (one of them hidden), and challenge your friends through Game Center on iOS, Google Play Games on Android. Fun art, moody soundtrack, lots of particles.

Privacy

Disasteroids collects nothing. No account of ours, no sign-in of ours, no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, no tracking identifiers, and no in-app purchases. The game makes no network requests of its own on either platform.

One thing leaves your device, and it travels inside Apple’s or Google’s own service rather than ours: leaderboards and achievements.

  • On iPhone and iPad — Game Center. It signs in automatically if you are already signed into Game Center. What goes up is your score and which of the eleven achievements you have unlocked. The game never reads your name, your email, or your Game Center id.
  • On Android — Google Play Games. It signs in at launch, and you can decline or sign out in the Play Games app — the game is fully playable signed out. What goes up is your score and your achievements, and Google also receives your Play Games player id. Google’s own SDK additionally reports diagnostics back to Google to keep itself healthy; that one we cannot switch off.

Both go over HTTPS inside the platform’s own framework. Your score is shown on Apple’s or Google’s leaderboard under your profile there, which is the point of a leaderboard.

On Android the app declares internet access so Play Games can post your scores; the game itself still makes no network requests. It also declares that it needs an accelerometer, because tilting is how you fly.

The accelerometer steers the ship and nothing more. Readings are used in the moment, and for a tilt calibration held in memory; they are never recorded, saved, or transmitted.

What is kept on your device, and only there: your best score, the local high-score table, cumulative flight time (for the officer-rank achievements), volume, mute, tilt sensitivity and the multi-tap setting. The engine also writes a small rolling log in the app’s private storage — engine messages and lines like “signed in” — which never contains names, ids, or anything you typed, and is never read back over the network. All of it goes when you delete the app.

Delete your data

We hold nothing to delete — uninstalling removes everything above. Scores and achievements live in your Apple or Google account:

  • Android: open the Play Games app, tap your profile picture, then Settings, then Delete Play Games account & data. You can delete the data for a single game — choose Disasteroids — or the whole profile. Google’s instructions.
  • iOS: open Settings, then Game Center. Apple manages Game Center data; turning Game Center off for the game resets its scores and achievements.
